The Happiness Ecosystem Index (H.E. Index) forms the foundation for Happiness By Design. It's a dynamic system, it's responsive, and it grows by user interaction, constantly evolving and growing.
In 2018, three global companies formed a partnership to study the intersection of the science of happiness and the science of design. Each brought their own expertise in the fields of workplace culture (people), the built environment (places) and the connections between the two (pathways).
The diagram on the left demonstrates the structure of the index. This begins with the five fundamental truths of happiness, the essentials that comprise each truth, the merits of each essential, and the pursuits you and your company can implement. Each pursuit includes ways to measure by people, pathway, and place.
The five "Truths of Happiness" are the common denominators that contribute to authentic workplace happiness. From these key overarching themes, we then explore the more granular aspects and actions of designing for a happy workplace.
